Holy Child Health Center, Fijai, to become a Specialist Psychiatry Center

The Holy Child Health Center, Fijai, will soon become a Specialist Psychiatry Center in the Western Region.
This was disclosed by the Western Regional Health Director, Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang, when the Bishop Responsible for Health, Most Rev. Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum paid a courtesy call on him during his recent working visit to the Sekondi-Takoradi and Sefwi Wiawso Dioceses.
The Health Center which provides general clinical services was originally set up to provide Psychiatry services. It was established by the Sisters Hospitaller in 2004.
Currently, there are 17 in mates who are catered for at the facility. The oldest being 70 years and youngest, 15 years. A philanthropic caregiver in the Fijai community gathers all mentally derailed persons on the streets and provides accommodation for them. She has provided a bus which conveys them from their residence to the Holy Child Health Center on daily basis. They stay at the center between 8am and 2pm each day, where they are fed, given medication and engaged in recreational activities.
Management of the center believe the constant engagement in the recreational activities is very therapeutic and aids in early recovery from some of the conditions. The inmates are taught paper work, clay work, beads making, bakery, production of liquid soap and parazone.
